Sharing

PhotoBerry Studio provides flexible sharing options that allow photographers to control how galleries and sessions are shared with clients or the public. The sharing feature helps ensure that your images and sessions are accessible only to the people you want to share them with, while protecting your work from unauthorized access.

Sharing Options Overview

In PhotoBerry Studio, you can choose from the following sharing options:

  1. Public Sharing

    • Allows anyone with the gallery or session URL to view the content.
    • No restrictions are applied, making it the most open option for general viewing.
  2. Private with URL Key

    • A unique URL key is generated with a ?pbk= parameter, providing a secure link that authenticates users automatically when they visit the gallery or session.
    • Clients do not need to log in, but only those with the exact URL key can access the content.
  3. Private with Password

    • Protects the gallery or session with a password, requiring users to enter the password before gaining access.
    • This adds an extra layer of security and is useful for sharing with multiple clients who do not have accounts.
  4. Private, Require Client Login

    • Restricts access to specific clients who must be logged into their accounts.
    • This is the most secure option, ensuring that only designated client(s) can access the gallery or session.

Multi-Client Sharing (Pro Version)

Currently, in the free version of PhotoBerry Studio, URLs and passwords can be generated for either the assigned client or for "Guest", which allows for guest viewing (without proofing submissions). In the upcoming Pro version, the system will support multi-client sharing, allowing photographers to assign multiple clients to a session and generate a URL or password for each.

Security Note

When a user accesses a gallery or session secured by a URL key or password, a cookie is placed in their browser that authorizes it to view that gallery or session until their PhotoBerry Studio cookie's permission to access that gallery or session expires (in 30 minutes by default). During that time, the user may not need to re-enter the gallery/session password or include the ?pbk= parameter in the gallery/session URL to access the gallery or session. Users should exercise precautions to avoid allowing unauthorized access to galleries/sessions via their browser, such as by clearing their cookies after viewing a gallery or session on a computer that may be accessed by others.

Users who attempt to access a non-public gallery or session by its URL without having authenticated (for example, without being logged in as the gallery or session's client, or without including the ?pbk= parameter in the URL, etc., depending on the sharing settings of the gallery/session) will see an error message, or a screen prompting for the password in the case of private galleries/sessions protected with a password. As such, it is possible for users to determine that a gallery or session exists at a certain URL, even if they don't have access to the gallery or session. This may be important to keep in mind when setting gallery/session titles containing sensitive information, since the gallery/session URL may be based on the gallery or session's current title or a previous title.
